BOGUE MILK SOAP PHILOSOPHY Artisanal, All Natural, Handmade Bath, Skincare, Hair & Body Products Created & Wildcrafted to be Mindful & Effective Made with meticulously researched Botanicals, Pure Essential Oils & responsibly sourced Organic & Sustainable Ingredients. Soap is to the body what laughter is to the soul Bogue Milk Soap creates all its soap with a simple philosophy, the belief and commitment that every product is made with the best ingredients available and is of superior quality. We use organic oils, butters and herbs, obtaining whatever we can locally, many of our ingredients are grown and produced right here in the Ojai Valley. Fresh, raw goat milk is collected weekly from a local farm, organic lavender comes from two farms in the area, and organic comfrey, chickweed, plantain, calendula and chamomile are all grown or purchased locally. Goat milk is a linchpin of our original product line and continues to be the liquid of choice for all our soaps other than vegan products. Goat milk is a natural emollient that soothes and moisturizes, it is rich in vitamins A, E, B6 & B12, all nourishing to the skin, it has a high casein, fatty acids & proteins, content that is easily absorbed and hydrates dry skin, it helps maintain the skin acid mantle that fights bacteria, and hydroxyl acids from goat milk in the soap act as an exfoliate to slough dead skin. Many of our soaps contain infused oils we make in our shop. We make them from herbs with properties known to be beneficial to the skin that we want in our soaps, but the plant materials themselves can not hold up to the saponification process. Infused oils enable us to incorporate these properties while controlling the strength and quality of the oils. To the same end, we make our own milks for the Vegan line from organic coconut and organic raw almonds so there are no additives. In addition to the handmade infused oils and milks, we seek and select additives to round out each bar, such as bentonite and Moroccan clays in shaving soaps for slip, kaolin clay in a facial soap to absorb oils, rose hips for color and powdered orange peel for distressed skin. At Bogue Milk Soap, all soaps are scented only with proprietary blends made with organic or therapeutic grade essential oils. For the original line No 1 through No 10, blends were developed for sensual appeal and many favorites emerged. With our specialty soaps, each blend is formulated specifically to suit the purpose of the soap for which it is blended. Palm oil is a great contributor to our soap, but we know the industry has controversial practices in many areas. We purchase only palm oil that is grown in South America and in a sustainable manner and is certified by the Sustainable Palm Oil Roundtable Organization, SPRO certification. We love our facility, it is a renovated storage facility with original wood and roll up doors that provide great light and ventilation. We always purchase quality equipment for reuse when available, and to further avoid the throwaway mindset, we use packaging materials made from recycled consumer waste and labels minimalist printed on recycled paper. Reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle! We will continue to strive to maintain and improve the quality of our products, and to do so with the smallest footprint possible. We make our soap in small 40 lbs. batches weighed and mixed by hand, and all bars are hand cut. We intend to continue to create our soap one small batch at a time. We intend to continue the handmade, all natural, and farm to bath methods that make Bogue Milk Soap products good for the face, good for the body and good for the soul.
